Goal Setting

Goal Setting Overview

This quote essentially says describes the purpose of goal setting,

“If you don’t know where you are going, how are you going to get there?”   Unknown

A goal describes what the problem or opportunity will look like after it has been resolved.

Without clear goals and objectives, people scatter ideas around as they occur. In general, be

aware of these problems:

  • Goals that are set unrealistically high will be perceived to be unreachable and no effort will be made to achieve them.
  • Goals that are set too low will give a feeling of no challenge and have no benefit in achieving.
  • Goals that are set too vague will make it difficult to determine whether the goal can be achieved or when.
  • Objectives that are set sporadically and without a clear path to the goal will be forgotten.
  • Too many un-prioritized objectives may be set, leading to a feeling of overload
